Wednesday, July 19, 2006 (New Delhi):

A day after they were shut down by the government bloggers in India have decided to take action.

A blogger in Sonepat filed a right to information application on Wednesday demanding to know why they have been blocked.

A group of bloggers is also meeting in Delhi to discuss what will be their next step.

The main questions that the application asks are:

  • Has there been a directive issued by the government to blocks certain domains?
  • Why has this blanket block come into force?
  • When will the block cease to exist?
  • What form of redressal does an Indian citizen have to ensure that these websites are no longer blocked?

NDTV has learnt that the ISPs have been told to refine and target website blocking.

Sources have told NDTV only four websites were to be blocked and that too only at the sub domain level.
