Far cry – CIC’s Problems

Far cry –

The Central Information Commi-ssion, decides on complaints of citizens who are denied their right to information by government departments. But the commission itself was facing problems in getting the key personnel appointed. A joint secretary shouldered the work of the commission’s secretary and registrar besides his own work.

Now the Cabinet Committee of Appointments has appointed two key officials and the commission’s woes are over. But complainants still grumble: the commission’s office, on Jawaharlal Nehru University campus is away from the hub of the ministries and departments.
